We’ve seen the dozen and one ads on TV promoting diets without carbohydrates and diets without sugars. Most of them have made a fortune too, because they’re all geared towards weight loss. There’s something everyone missed out on, though: why healthy food to eat is important?
More than just an image concern
We’ve heard the arguments about fighting obesity, but the drive seems a little superficial and shallow. Aside from “looking better”, there’s a more important and more sound reason why we need to fight being overweight. It’s not simply because mot of us can’t fit into size zero clothes, nor is it because we’re trying to get rid of ugly love handles. We are trying to find out the best healthy eating guidelines to lose weight because it’s unhealthy to be consuming so much fat and sugar in our bodies. We are trying to fight diseases which we get from eating too much junk food.
Going back to the pyramid
Since we’re no longer looking at weight loss as the primary concern of our diet shift, we need to understand that it’s not about sticking to a drastic no sugar or no carbohydrates diet. Most of these new fangled diets promote temporary fat loss, anyway, which can later on result in kidney malfunctions because they’re imbalanced.
If we truly want to find healthy eating information, we need to go to the basic food pyramid. This means eating a minimal amount of sweets, if we must consume sweets at all, and investing more on quality proteins, carbohydrates and fibers. We need to reintroduce fruits and vegetables into are diet and eat just enough. The key to a good diet is balance and proper proportion.
